J. Barton Edmunds, CPA*, CFP® is a well-known certified financial planner in the Roanoke, Virginia area. The focus of Bart's practice is on helping retirees, and those preparing for retirement, avoid common financial mistakes through the development and implementation of tax reduction, asset preservation, and wealth accumulation strategies.
Bart’s 5th grade class did a segment on personal finance that focused on budgeting, managing cash flow, and investing. As he watched classmates struggle to balance their checkbooks, he realized that concepts and principles that came easily to some, were not so simple for others. His interest in financial organization and the ‘secrets’ of investing led him to classics of financial literature such as Benjamin Graham’s The Intelligent Investor at an early age. In high school, he’d spend hours at the library pouring through Value Line investment reports looking for patterns or signals that a stock, or the market in general, may be positioned for an upward move.
His aptitude for numbers and organization ultimately resulted in a BS degree in Accounting from the College of William & Mary. Since that time, he has developed a thriving planning practice based on his nearly two decades of experience in the industry.
In addition to holding his CPA and CFP® designations, Bart provides training and mentorship to firms and other financial services professionals throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
Bart is a lifelong resident of Roanoke where he resides with his wife, Cynthia, and three children, Morgan, Aston, and Reagan. In his free time, he enjoys golf, travel, and spending time with his family.
